Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
Direct Loan Entrance Counseling is a federal requirement if you are borrowing a Federal Direct Stafford Loan for the first time at ECU. Direct Loan Entrance Counseling provides information on how the loan process works, how to manage your education expenses, your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, and other potential resources to consider in helping fund your education.

Master Promissory Note
The completion of a Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a federal requirement if you are borrowing a Federal Direct Stafford Loan for the first time at ECU. An MPN is a multi-year binding legal agreement in which you promise to repay the loans you receive and any accrued interest.
Direct Exit Loan Counseling
Direct Loan Exit Counseling is a federal requirement if you borrow a Federal Direct Stafford Loan or Direct Graduate PLUS Loan and you withdraw from a term, graduate, or drop courses below half-time enrollment, even if you are transferring to another school. Direct Loan Exit Counseling provides information regarding your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, tips to help manage your borrowing, and options for repaying your loans.

Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment
Students are encouraged to complete an Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment each year they accept a new federal student loan. The goal of the acknowledgment is to help them understand how their loans affect their financial future.
Financial Wellness Hub
ECU’s new Financial Wellness Hub provides students with educational programs on a variety of subjects relating to financial literacy with the goal of promoting financial wellness. Through advising, outreach, and on-campus programming, the hub raises awareness of financial literacy, student aid programs, scholarships, career paths, and long-term financial obligations. The Financial Wellness Hub is located in the Main Campus Student Center, Room 136, and is open M-F 8am-5pm

Annual Student Loan Debt Report – an annual listing of average student loan debt by state, providing some context for any borrowing decisions.
Grant Alternatives to Student Loans – a listing of possible grant options that might be pursued, to reduce the amount that might need to be borrowed. As this page is national in scope, some of the listed items may not be applicable in North Carolina. Any federal grant eligibility, as determined by the information on the FAFSA, would automatically be considered.
