Dual Enrollment

A dual enrollment student is a student obtaining a degree from ECU who has received permission from the Registrar to take classes at another university or community college. In order to receive financial aid, dual enrollment students are required to complete the Permission to Take Courses at a U.S. University or College form (PDF) to take classes at other U.S. colleges/universities, or a Permission to Take Courses at a Foreign University or College form (PDF) in order to take classes through a foreign institution. Students must submit a copy of their permission form to our office. Once the permission form is received, the Office of Student Financial aid will initiate a Consortium Agreement with the host institution. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), enrollment status, and Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Distance Education

A distance education student is a student who is taking classes online through ECU Distance Education. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by the completion of the FAFSA, enrollment status, and Satisfactory Academic Progress.

International Student

An international student is a student who is not a citizen of the United States. International students may be eligible for financial aid if they are an eligible non-citizen. Generally you are an eligible non-citizen if you are a permanent U.S. resident with a Permanent Resident Card (I-551), a conditional permanent resident (I-551C), the holder of an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the Department of Homeland  Security (showing refuge, asylum granted, or parole as designations), T-Visa holder (T-1, T-2, T-3, etc.), Cuban-Haitian Entrant, or the holder of a valid certification or eligibility letter from the Department of Health and Human Services showing a designation of victim of human trafficking. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by the completion of the FAFSA, enrollment status, and Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Study Abroad

Students interested in studying abroad should contact the ECU Office of Global Affairs for details or visit the ECU Study Abroad website to view a list of programs offered. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by the completion of the FAFSA, enrollment status, and Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Students participating in a third party or direct enrollment program are required to complete either the Permission to Take Courses at a Foreign University or College form (PDF) in order to take classes through a foreign institution or the Permission to Take Courses at a U.S. University or College form (PDF) to take classes offered by another U.S. college/university abroad in order to receive financial aid. A completed and signed copy must be provided to our office.

Visiting

A visiting student is a student who is obtaining their degree at an institution other than ECU and has permission to take a class at ECU. Visiting students should discuss financial aid and consortium options with their home school.
